Behold, the wicked man conceives evil
and is pregnant with mischief
and gives birth to lies.
He makes a pit, digging it out,
and falls into the hole that he has made.
His mischief returns upon his own head,
and on his own skull his violence descends.
I will give to the LORD the thanks due to his righteousness,
and I will sing praise to the name of the LORD, the Most High.
Comment: Conception, pregnancy, birth are all words usually connected with the beginning of a new life! Here the conceived pit to catch the unwary ends up with the man who digs it falling into it himself; His planned mischief to do damage to his neighbour ends up like a crushing blow cracking his own skull! But David says ‘that is not my way, I will know the blessing of God.’ My voice will end in a praise song, sung loudly, to the the Most High and Righteous Lord!
Prayer: May my life conceive good things, O Lord.

Thank you Barry for your comments on this Psalm. It brings to my mind the old animated cartoons of the Roadrunner and the Coyote. The more evil plans the coyote has to catch the road runner, the more those plans end up in disaster. And quite often this happens when evil people conceive evil plans. Praise God that He is a righteous and good God who protects those who trust in Him. God bless you.
