I will surely assemble all of you, O Jacob;
I will gather the remnant of Israel;
I will set them together
like sheep in a fold,
like a flock in its pasture,
a noisy multitude of men.
He who opens the breach goes up before them;
they break through and pass the gate,
going out by it.
Their king passes on before them,
the LORD at their head.
Comment: Does this passage refer to a group who will be saved out of this judgement and go back through the gates of Samaria and/or Jerusalem to again establish their kingdoms as God’s people? The history of the Jews is a record of this sort of thing happening more than once. For instance Nehemiah, with Ezra, led such a return.
Or does it refer to Jesus coming and making a way for people, both Jews and gentiles to enter into the blessings of God’s people? The last sentence refers to the king going through the broken down walls (the breach – does this mean the city wall or the broken relationship with God). The Lord (God) at their head it says. Does this mean that it is God’s plan or that Jesus is God and this gives Him, Jesus, both titles of King and God. Personally I believe that we are called upon to hear both explanations.
Prayer: Thank You, Jesus, for opening a Way for us to be right with God.
Thank you Barry for your comments on this passage. We as God’s people need to listen to His voice, follow His directions, and keep close to Him no matter what the future holds, because we know that He holds the future in His Hands, and He is Sovereign God.
