Micah 3: 1-4……Pretty Gruesome!

And I said:
Hear, you heads of Jacob
and rulers of the house of Israel!
Is it not for you to know justice?—
you who hate the good and love the evil,
who tear the skin from off my people
and their flesh from off their bones,
who eat the flesh of my people,
and flay their skin from off them,
and break their bones in pieces
and chop them up like meat in a pot,
like flesh in a cauldron.
Then they will cry to the LORD,
but he will not answer them;
he will hide his face from them at that time,
because they have made their deeds evil.

Comment: This is all about the leaders who were acting out of self-interest and not as servants! Extreme language is used to underline and hopefully get the attention of these extraordinarily evil people. The phrase ‘Is it not for you to know justice? is a shout to those who show no justice that they are going to experience justice for themselves . The gruesome details are listed so that they might imagine what the justice meted out to them will be like for doing the evil things listed. And their begging to be let off is too, too late. Their evil deeds are so graphic that God is exchanging His merciful face for His Judge’s frown. As the Scripture says ‘My Spirit will not always strive with man’. They had gone too far into evil.

Prayer: Help me if I am living loosely not to just expect You to overlook my behaviour, Holy God.

  1. Thank you Barry for your comments. “The human heart is desperately wicked, who can know it?” It is incredible how evil ways can take over a person’s heart, and that person can lose sight of righteousness and justice and God’s ways. God is just, and His ways cannot be refuted. We must seek His forgiveness, and turn to Him. God bless you.
