Hear this, you heads of the house of Jacob
and rulers of the house of Israel,
who detest justice
and make crooked all that is straight,
who build Zion with blood
and Jerusalem with iniquity.
Its heads give judgment for a bribe;
its priests teach for a price;
its prophets practice divination for money;
yet they lean on the LORD and say,
“Is not the LORD in the midst of us?
No disaster shall come upon us.”
Therefore because of you
Zion shall be plowed as a field;
Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins,
and the mountain of the house a wooded height.
Comment: Whereas I normally highlight all of the quoted Bible passage, you will note today that I haven’t. The underlining in the first two lines spotlights those in authority. With authority comes responsibility! The next seven lines highlights the sins of the leaders and it is a horrific list!
Those very leaders claim that they are God’s people and they are safe because of that. Micah says ‘you’ve fooled yourselves’, Your cherished city, built up by your evil begotten methods and gains, will be totally destroyed.
Prayer: Help us as we live in the midst of Your Grace and Love, O Father, to remember that You are Truly Good, and call us to be, truly good.
Thank you Barry for your comments on this passage. How gracious a God we have. How patient a God He is. But He is also Just, and Justice is one thing God requires of His people. Justice and righteousness are in His Hands. If we are not following Him, and acting as He desires, we will find out how His Justice will move to bring discipline in the lives of those who oppose Him. Thank you God for Your love, Your mercy, Your justice and Your grace.
