Micah 7: 1-4a….. The end result.

Woe is me! For I have become
as when the summer fruit has been gathered,
as when the grapes have been gleaned:
there is no cluster to eat,
no first-ripe fig that my soul desires.
The godly has perished from the earth,
and there is no one upright among mankind;
they all lie in wait for blood,
and each hunts the other with a net.
Their hands are on what is evil, to do it well;
the prince and the judge ask for a bribe,
and the great man utters the evil desire of his soul;
thus they weave it together.
The best of them is like a brier,
the most upright of them a thorn hedge.

Comment: I must confess that I think that Micah could be writing this statement of his feelings on a lap-top in the room next door. This powerful poetry reflects my feelings of the world in 2022.

  • massive famines, starvation, empty shelves in the supermarkets, fuel and power prices soaring.
  • Truth denied, God cast into the unwanted basket without a thought, godly character rare.
  • Listen to the lying of the politicians and world leaders as they lust after power and selfish gain, leading their people into many minor wars and threatening mass destruction.
  • Bribery and corruption prevalent and truth hard to find in the prickly concoction of absurd laws and corrupt rulers.

Thank God we do see evidence of His continuing mercy but maybe, just maybe, we are living in a day like Micah found himself!

Prayer: Help me not to despair but be faithful to You, my God and King.

  1. Thank you Barry for your comments on this passage. I believe you have made correct observations and assumptions regarding our leaders. The leaders of our States, and our Country, and of the World are showing no evidence of seeking after God, and of holding up His standards as they lead us, which is very sad, and an indictment on our society today. God bless you.
