1 It is good to give thanks to the LORD,
to sing praises to your name, O Most High;
2 to declare your steadfast love in the morning,
and your faithfulness by night,
3 to the music of the lute and the harp,
to the melody of the lyre.
4 For you, O LORD, have made me glad by your work;
at the works of your hands I sing for joy. – Do you think that this means ‘Creation’? Or the memories of Israel’s history of God? Or the beauty of the temple in which this is being joyously sung?
5 How great are your works, O LORD!
Your thoughts are very deep!
6 The stupid man cannot know;
the fool cannot understand this: – You may leave your shoes outside as you enter to worship (some do), but you are not meant to switch off your brain!
7 that though the wicked sprout like grass
and all evildoers flourish,
they are doomed to destruction forever;
8 but you, O LORD, are on high forever.
9 For behold, your enemies, O LORD,
for behold, your enemies shall perish;
all evildoers shall be scattered. – Tomorrow we spend time on the second half of this song which is about the Blessings God grants. Today as worship begins don’t forget to repent! Keep short accounts with God!
Comment: I’m almost convinced to say, ‘Just read it again!’ But here are a few thoughts before I encourage you to read it again! Above the Psalm is written ‘A Song for the Sabbath.’ so it must have had a tune set to it. Although I can’t remember ever singing it, there should be one available. I hope that it isn’t sung to a dirge because it has the elements for us to come into worship with Joy and leaving forgiven in peaceful thankfulness! ‘Just read it again!’
Psalm 117: Praise the LORD, all nations! Extol him, all peoples!
2 For great is his steadfast love toward us, and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD!
Prayer: Thank You that Your followers are Your family. Thank You that I have the opportunity to come and worship with ‘family’ at Your feet, at Your Table!
