Proverbs 2: 9-15

Then you will understand righteousness and justice
and equity, every good path;
for wisdom will come into your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;
discretion will watch over you,
understanding will guard you,
delivering you from the way of evil,
from men of perverted speech,
who forsake the paths of uprightness
to walk in the ways of darkness,
who rejoice in doing evil
and delight in the perverseness of evil,
men whose paths are crooked,
and who are devious in their ways.

And the good results of seeking Wisdom continue. Maybe we need to review yesterday’s introduction to this.
Justice is stressed here and in many other passages in the Bible. Our seeking wisdom should lead to us treating people equally and fairly. What a difference it would make if we had that sort of justice in our lands. But the blessings are personal as well as bringing changes in our reactions to our neighbours. Wisdom, pleasure, understanding and discretion are to become hallmarks of out character. And last in this list of blessings (the list will continue even further, as we read further on.) is protection from the perverse and evil person. I think this is not magic – we must use the knowledge given to us wisely and be discerning but these gifts of knowledge and wisdom are in the list above.

Prayer: Lord. please deliver me from any hint of smug-ness, but help me to be established in the wealth of wisdom.
